The calculator estimates framing lumber quantities for a backyard shed from user-supplied floor dimensions, wall height, stud spacing, and roof span. Wall studs are counted as wall perimeter divided by stud spacing, plus additions for corners and door or window openings; plates are calculated as three times the perimeter to account for a single bottom plate and double top plates; sheathing sheet counts are derived from total wall area divided by 32 sq ft per standard 4×8 sheet. Roof members are sized from rafter span and rafter spacing, and all quantities are rounded up with a 10–15% wastage allowance applied.
