Sources & methodology

This calculator determines the total weight of structural angle iron (L-section steel) from user-supplied leg dimensions, thickness, length, and quantity. Cross-sectional area is computed using the standard L-section formula — (Leg_A + Leg_B − Thickness) × Thickness — which applies to both equal-leg and unequal-leg angles. That area is multiplied by a steel density of 0.2833 lb/in³ (per AISC convention) and the total length in inches to produce weight in pounds, with a per-foot unit weight also reported.
