The calculator multiplies room length by width to get the floor area in square feet, then applies a wastage percentage to account for cuts and offsets before dividing by the coverage area of a single pack. Pack count is rounded up to the nearest whole pack using a ceiling function, and total cost is derived by multiplying that pack count by the price per pack. The default wastage factor is 10%, which is the standard US industry allowance for straight-lay laminate installations.
