Volume is derived from the formula (Area × Depth) / 27 to convert cubic feet to cubic yards, then multiplied by a compacted density in tons per cubic yard to produce a weight in tons. A typical density range for crushed stone is 1.35–1.5 tons per cu yd; the tool applies this conversion entirely within US imperial units. Total material cost is calculated by multiplying the estimated weight in tons by a user-supplied price per ton.
